Romans 12:1-2

So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. Romans 12:1-2

The Woodcarver

Put March 13 on your calendar.  It's the release date for The Woodcarver and if you're looking for a fantastic movie for Family Movie Night, it's perfect.

Although somewhat predictable, The Woodcarver had plenty of drama and tense moments to keep an adult's attention.  It's rated PG for "thematic elements" - those would be divorce, family arguments, loss, vandalism and arson.  However, there was nothing in the movie that made me uncomfortable to watch it with my 10 and 12 year old.

The thing I loved about The Woodcarver (besides just being an enjoyable movie) was the discussion it sparked with our children afterwards.  It's wonderful to have a springboard like that to talk about life issues within the context of a film that ultimately points to God.

The highest praise came from one of my sons, "Mom, that's one of my favorite movies!".  I'm so thankful for an alternative to all the junk that is in our video store.  I'm not familiar with "Faith and Family Films", but I'll definitely being doing some research now.

Would you like to win a copy of The Woodcarver?  Click on the link and leave me a comment that you did.  I'll have "random.org" choose a winner on March 10 from the comments.

A Mile in His Shoes

"A Mile in His Shoes"

This movie is definitely worth your time.  Whether you like using movies as "Family Movie Night", to teach a lesson, are looking for wholesome entertainment, or have boys who like sports movies - this is the movie you're looking to see.

I guess this movie was on TV originally in the fall, but we missed it.  It recently released on video and I'm so glad my family had an opportunity to see it.  We watched in on Thursday night and again on Friday night!  My children (ages 10 & 12) only had positive things to say about the movie (including many uses of the word "cool").  You don't have to be a kid or a boy though, A Mile in His Shoes is is inspiring for all.

The following links and product description will give you a much better description than I could.  From me, you just want to know that this is a great movie - we love it!

About Mile in His Shoes:

From the director of "Angels In the Outfield" comes an inspiring story about a special boy with an amazing gift, and the coach who believed. Dean Cain and Luke Schroder star in the gmc movie based on the book "The Legend of Mickey Tussler".

(From Anet again:  This movie is rated PG and I am guessing it is for a scene where someone gets hit - although it is not physically shown and for some mild flirtation.  I was completely comfortable watching it with my children.  If you have young children, they won't "get" the story line, but there isn't anything inappropriate about the movie in my opinion.)

This movie was not enjoyable for me to watch. However, I think that may have been because of my age or because I’m not a gamer. My ten year old spent a lot of time trying to figure out how the movie flowed together and kept asking me what was going on. Don’t let that stop you from watching though. Your kids might love it!

Overall, I really appreciate Walmart and Proctor and Gamble for sponsoring movies that you can feel comfortable sitting down and watching with your family. ‘Game of Your Life’ was clean with no questionable words or content and taught a character building lesson. It would be a great springboard to talk about loyalty, fairness, honesty, tough decisions, and commitment.

I received special access to a screening of this movie and all opinions are certainly my own.
